Purpose of the Assessments

Tracking the 90-Day Acceleration Plan

As part of the 90-Day Acceleration Plan, JigawaUNITE introduced supervisor and SSO-led sample assessments to measure whether the instructional changes — 70 extra minutes of daily reading, restarted reading courses for P1 and P2, and the new Accelerated Reading programme — are producing measurable gains in pupil literacy and numeracy. Results feed directly into programming decisions, enabling rapid adjustments where progress is insufficient.

The 90-Day Acceleration Plan

Four major instructional changes

SUBEB data mid-2025–26 showed pupils were not tracking toward expected progress, with persistently high non-reader rates. JigawaUNITE — in collaboration with SUBEB leadership — launched a 90-day plan built on four major instructional changes, backed by operational support to ensure fidelity of implementation.

1

70 extra minutes of reading every day

Additional dedicated reading time added to every school’s daily timetable throughout the 90 days.

2

Primary 1 and 2 returned to lesson 1

Grades 1 and 2 restarted their reading courses from the very beginning to close foundational gaps.

3

New Accelerated Reading course launched

A purpose-built course specifically designed for older non-readers.

4

Individualised formative assessment introduced

1:1 evaluation of each pupil with immediate feedback and remediation cycles.

Literacy Assessment

Reading Check — Individual Oral Reading

Each pupil reads aloud while the Supervisor counts words read correctly. Untimed — but a score of 0 is recorded if the pupil does not begin within 20 seconds.
