Number Recognition
Simple Arithmetic
Complex Arithmetic
Bars show the % of pupils who met each ICAN benchmark.
Number Recognition (≥1 out of 2): Task 1 — identify a numeral from a printed set; Task 2 — identify a second numeral.
Simple Arithmetic (≥2 out of 4 Task 1 items): 21+17=38; 55−14=41; 2×4=8; 8÷2=4.
Complex Arithmetic (≥2 out of 4 Task 2 items): 29+15=44; 46−29=17; 42×5=210; 93÷7=13.
Numeracy benchmarks are endline only — the baseline assessment did not cover the full task set required for these benchmarks.
Jun 2026 Endline 90 programme schools
* Programme-wide enrolment counts are calculated per grade: each grade's sample percentage is multiplied by that grade's total enrolment across all 250 programme schools (P1: 15,226 · P2: 17,692 · P3: 17,431 · P4: 16,787 · P5: 15,436 · P6: 14,948 · Total: 97,520). These are not counts of assessed pupils — they are estimates of how many learners across the full programme fall into each fluency band.
Data sources: Both assessments were a collaboration between Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and NewGlobe Education. The March 2026 baseline covered all SUBEB programme schools assessed March 6–11, 2026 (P1–P6); the June 2026 endline covered 90 programme schools. This is a within-year cross-sectional comparison: P1 baseline pupils are compared to P1 endline pupils, and so on for each grade.
